3 Ways to Achieve the Golden Ratio with Breast Implants

shutterstock_63905077Not every woman has the same goal with breast augmentation. Some women want a subtle enhancement with breast implants that look and feel as natural as possible. Others want a drastic change in cup size that is unapologetically artificial-looking and begs for attention.

In a recent study, people were shown photos of breasts with different proportions of fullness in the upper pole, above the nipple, and the lower pole, below the nipple. Most identified breasts with a 45:55 ratio as being the most attractive. This magical number is called the golden ratio, and here is how to achieve it with breast augmentation.

1. Pay Attention to the Poles

This study suggests that a teardrop shaped breast, which mimics the shape of a natural breast, is deemed as more visually pleasing than the round shape that sometimes results from breast augmentation. The way to increase the breast size while honoring this more natural shape is to focus on more fullness in the lower pole. Breast implants that create too much fullness or roundness in the upper pole do not meet the standards of the golden ratio and won’t look as natural.

2. Consider Anatomical Implants

Depending on your anatomy, anatomical breast implants can be a better option for achieving the golden ratio. Anatomical implants are wider at the base and taper towards the top, like natural breasts. However, when properly placed, round implants can also deliver the golden ratio because gravity will natural pull the filler of the implant toward the lower pole.

3. Choose the Right Plastic Surgeon and Communicate Clearly

No matter what your goals are with breast augmentation, the best way to ensure you’re satisfied with your results is to choose the right plastic surgeon and clearly communicate what you hope to achieve with breast augmentation.
