Tummy Tuck

Men and women who have excess stomach skin and fatty tissue due to age, diet or pregnancy may benefit from the slimming effects of a tummy tuck. Also known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck can provide sleeker and smoother contours to the stomach by repairing loose or separated abdominal muscles, removing excess fatty tissue and tightening the skin.

Considering a Tummy Tuck?

Tummy tuck candidates are commonly men or women who have undergone dramatic weight loss that has left them with baggy, sagging stomach skin, stubborn fatty deposits and loose abdominal muscles. Additionally, pregnancy and childbirth can cause the abdominal muscles and skin to stretch beyond their normal capacity without always receding to their pre-pregnancy shape.

Most men and women considering a tummy tuck would like to regain a sleeker, smoother and younger-looking shape to their abdomen. It’s important to understand that the procedure is not a substitute for weight loss and candidates should be sure to reach their goal weight prior to surgery.

Ideal tummy tuck results are seen in patients of a healthy and consistent weight with sagging stomach skin and some lingering fatty tissue. Isolated pockets of subcutaneous fat can remain around the abdomen despite diet and exercise, and can be treated with liposuction in conjunction with a tummy tuck.

Planning Your Surgery

Prior to your tummy tuck, you will have a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Nein. During this time, you can discuss your goals and expectations for tummy tuck surgery, as well as any concerns you may have. Dr. Nein will discuss any relevant information with you, including your personal preferences for the procedure approach.

Dr. Nein will also carry out a physical evaluation of the condition of your abdomen. This may include fatty deposits that can be removed and the state of your abdominal muscles. He will inform you if he recommends liposuction in addition to a tummy tuck, and can make additional suggestions if the procedure is included as part of a mommy makeover. Depending on your needs, you may decide that you only require a mini tummy tuck, a shorter procedure that involves minimal abdominal tightening and skin tightening below the belly button.

Dr. Nein will also explain in detail the procedural steps of the surgery itself, including incision and belly button placement. He can provide you with explanations of anesthesia, the surgical facility, risks, limitations and costs.

Although your consultation is a great time to ask Dr. Nein any questions you may have about your tummy tuck surgery, if you think of any additional questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at any stage of your pre-op or post-op process.

Jill’s Tummy Tuck Story

“I am a mother of three. My youngest just turned 15 years old. For all of these years I had been carrying around all of this extra skin on my stomach. I lost most of my baby weight by working out and eating healthier but the skin was still there. I decided one day that I had enough, it was time to do something about it.”

Your Recovery & Results

After surgery, most patients experience some discomfort that can be controlled with medications. Swelling and bruising is to be expected and usually peaks about 48 hours following surgery. Patients may feel some tightness or soreness in the abdominal area and should relax as much as possible for the first couple of days. Dr. Nein will provide you with detailed post-operative care instructions.

Over the next several weeks, bruising and swelling will subside and you should be able to see your final results. While most patients can return to work after only a couple of weeks, take care to resume exercise and more strenuous activities gradually without overly straining the abdominals.

Following your tummy tuck, you should have sleeker and tighter stomach contours with minimal excess skin. Your abdominal muscles should be repaired and set in a more youthful and toned position. Without the baggage of sagging stomach skin and fatty tissue, you can enjoy the benefits of a younger looking figure, allowing men and women alike to feel sexier and more confident.
