Liposuction

No matter how closely you monitor your diet and or how targeted your exercise routine, getting rid of some fatty areas might seem impossible. Liposuction can be a great way to complement an active lifestyle and proper diet to help you achieve the best possible body contours. Considering Liposuction?

Liposuction can remove fat deposits from specific body areas that are historically difficult to address with diet and exercise alone. Common areas in which liposuction are performed include the hips and waistline, thighs, abdomen and buttocks. Lipo can also be performed on the lower legs and upper arms, as well as under the chin and along the jawline.

The best liposuction results are seen in those men and women who maintain a steady weight and already enjoy a healthy lifestyle, yet have isolated problem spots. Having good skin elasticity is an important component of ensuring the best possible outcome from liposuction. If excess skin and tissue are a concern, Dr. Nein may recommend different body contouring procedures instead of or in addition to liposuction, such as a tummy tuck. Liposuction is also frequently performed as part of a mommy makeover to resolve common pregnancy-related physical changes.

Dr. Nein can work with you to determine the approach that would be most effective for you and discuss the various risks and benefits of each. You can see examples of the liposuction results that are possible in our before & after photo gallery.

Planning Your Surgery

At your initial consultation, Dr. Nein will work with you to evaluate your general health and identify where fat deposits lie within your body, along with determining the general condition of your skin. He will also explain which liposuction techniques he feels may work best for you.

Dr. Nein offers a few different liposuction methods for his patients:

  • Traditional tumescent liposuction remains one of the most popular forms of liposuction. The injection of tumescent solution acts as a localized anesthetic while also shrinking the blood capillaries, which greatly reduces potential blood loss.
  • The super-wet technique is a variation on performing tumescent lipo that involves injecting a larger than normal amount of medicated solution.
  • SAFELipo® is an advanced form of traditional tumescent liposuction that offers greater precision and superior results. Dr. Nein trained directly with the developer of this technique, which also decreases the risks associated with other forms of lipo.
  • Ultrasound-assisted liposuction (UAL) uses ultrasonic energy to liquefy fat and make it easier to remove with suction, which can be especially beneficial for treating more fibrous areas like the male chest and back.

Dr. Nein will go over these options with you in more detail during your consultation, taking into consideration a number of factors in order to determine the best course of treatment.

Susan’s Liposuction Story

“I feel like I have a nice figure. I am at a healthy weight, but I have these areas of fat around my hips and thighs that just never go away, and it is so frustrating. I don’t want to lose any more weight, because I don’t want to get to an unhealthy weight. I researched liposuction and felt that might be just what I need to address the issue I was having.”

Your Recovery & Results

Some bruising and swelling are common during the days immediately following your liposuction, as is some seepage of fluid from the incision sites. These symptoms should go away gradually and a bit faster each day. Dr. Nein will have you wear a compression garment, and may use post-surgical drainage tubes to help swelling decrease more quickly.

Recovery times after liposuction vary from patient to patient and from one type of liposuction to the next. Most people can resume work within 2 weeks and strenuous activity within 4 weeks or less. Full recovery generally takes between 1 and 6 months. It’s important to carefully follow Dr. Nein’s post-operative instructions and complete all of follow-up examinations for a safe and healthy recovery.

When combined with ongoing healthy habits like staying active and eating right, the results from your liposuction can be long-lasting, and provide a slimmer, more attractive figure that you can enjoy for years to come.
