Face Lift

The environmental stressors of daily life like sun exposure combined with the effects of gravity can give your face a prematurely aged appearance. A facelift can help reduce more advanced signs of aging such as pronounced jowls, deep wrinkles around the mouth, and fatty deposits or loose skin in the upper neck, helping you look rejuvenated and refreshed.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Alexander Nein specializes in facelift surgery, and has the right combination of extensive educational background and medical expertise to create natural-looking facelift results. In addition to facial cosmetic surgery, Dr. Nein also offers a number of procedures for breast enhancement and body contouring for Nashville area men and women.

If you’re ready to learn more, please contact us online today, or call 615-327-0201 to schedule your facelift consultation at our Nashville plastic surgery practice. We have patients travel to us from all parts of Tennessee including Franklin, Clarksville, Murfreesboro and other communities.

Considering a Face Lift?

Although there is no “perfect” age for a facelift, the best facelift results are typically seen in men and women between the age of 40 and 60. More important than chronological age, though, are factors such as skin elasticity and bone structure, so Dr. Nein may perform facelift surgery in men and women in their 70s and beyond.

It’s important to be in good overall health, and to have realistic expectations about your results. A facelift won’t make you look like you’re in your 20s again and the aging process will continue to affect your appearance even after your surgery, but a facelift can help you look several years younger, healthier, and less tired, with results that often last up to a decade.

Since a facelift will only address the lower and mid-face, aging through the upper face may be better addressed with a brow lift or eyelid surgery. Alternatively, if you have aesthetic concerns about your facial features that go beyond aging, Dr. Nein may recommend additional procedures such as rhinoplasty or facial implants to help you meet your cosmetic goals.

Facial rejuvenation is a very individualized process that requires a customized treatment plan to address each patient’s specific concerns. You can see examples of the facelift results that are possible in our before & after photo gallery.

Planning Your Surgery

Before your facelift, you’ll have an in-depth consultation with Dr. Nein so you can discuss your goals for the procedure. Dr. Nein will also talk about any information related to your personal preferences, anatomical considerations or other factors that he needs to take into account before surgery.

During your consultation, Dr. Nein will evaluate the condition of your skin and examine your bone structure. He’ll ask questions about your general health, and may ask you to abstain from taking certain medications that could affect blood clotting, such as aspirin. You’ll hear more about the steps that Dr. Nein takes during the surgery itself, and will be given detailed information on what to expect before and after your surgery as well as during your recovery.

While your consultation is a great opportunity for you to bring up any questions you may have about your facelift, you should always feel free to contact us with any additional concerns that come up at any time during your time with us.

Your Recovery & Results

After surgery, some facial swelling and numbness are normal and typically mild, and you may notice some bruising as well. Dr. Nein recommends that you keep your head elevated and as immobile as possible to help minimize swelling. Sometimes, he may also use post-surgical drains to prevent fluid buildup and help swelling dissipate more quickly.

Seeing your final facelift results can take time, so it’s important to relax and be patient during the earliest stages of your recovery. Stitches can be removed around 5 days after surgery, and you can return to your normal daily routine as long as you continue avoiding strenuous activity for at least 2 weeks. Most patients return to work between 10 days and 2 weeks, and you should have a better idea of your results by 3 weeks after surgery.

Following recovery after your facelift, you should feel like a younger and revitalized version of yourself without looking obviously surgical or “done.” Your jawline should be better defined, your neck should look smoother without excess skin, and deep wrinkles like laugh lines should appear less pronounced. The results of facelift surgery often last up to a decade, so you can expect to look noticeably younger than your peers for years to come.
