Brow Lift

Age-related changes in your facial structure can cause your forehead to fall, giving your expression a permanently angry, tired or stressed appearance along with an overhanging brow. A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, can help raise a fallen brow back to a more youthful position along with minimizing the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles to help you look refreshed and rested.

Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Alexander Nein specializes in facial rejuvenation surgery like the forehead lift. His background in engineering combined with his extensive medical training and expertise help him create an aesthetic, natural-looking final result for all his patients. In addition to brow lift surgery, Dr. Nein also offers a full complement of cosmetic surgery procedures for Nashville area men and women who want to feel better about their appearance.

Considering a Brow Lift?

Most forehead lifts are performed on men and women between the ages of 40 and 60, although anyone who feels bothered by deep forehead furrows or frown lines may benefit from brow lift surgery, including those who have a genetic predisposition toward a low, heavy brow or pronounced lines over the nose.

The best candidates for brow lift surgery should be in good general physical and mental health, and have realistic expectations about their results. A brow lift can help you look years younger with results that are long-lasting, but the effects are localized to the forehead area only. For this reason, Dr. Nein may suggest including eyelid surgery with your forehead lift for a full rejuvenation of the upper face, while concerns over jowling and other signs of aging in the lower or mid-face may be better addressed with a face lift. These are options that Dr. Nein will address during your consultation.

Rejuvenating your facial appearance with a brow lift requires a customized approach to meet each individual’s particular appearance needs. You can see examples of the brow lift results that are possible in our before & after photo gallery.

Planning Your Surgery

Before your forehead lift, Dr. Nein will meet with you for an in-depth consultation to talk about your goals for surgery. Dr. Nein will also conduct a physical exam to better evaluate your candidacy for the procedure, as well as explain more about the surgical approach he feels may work best for you and any other details that he takes into consideration prior to your surgery.

Dr. Nein offers two options for brow lift surgery:

  • The traditional forehead lift uses a coronal incision made behind the hairline that runs approximately from ear to ear. Through this incision, Dr. Nein can remove excess tissue and tighten lax muscles for a smoother, unlined brow appearance.
  • An endoscopic brow lift requires a few very small incisions, through which Dr. Nein inserts a tiny camera. This way, he can see clearly the areas that need to be addressed without more exposure than necessary. Endoscopic surgery can take longer, but often means a faster recovery and less chance of scarring.

During your consultation, Dr. Nein will explain more about the benefits and differences of each surgical technique so you can decide together about the choice that’s best for you. Finally, you’ll be given detailed information on what to expect before and after your brow lift and recovery.

Dr. Nein and his staff are happy to answer any questions you have at any stage of the forehead lift process, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Your Recovery & Results

Your recovery experience may vary depending on whether traditional or endoscopic surgery was performed. However, in both cases, you should keep your head elevated for a few days after surgery to help alleviate swelling in the forehead, eyes and cheeks. This should dissipate within the first week. Because endoscopic incisions are smaller, less post-operative discomfort around the incision areas is typical following an endoscopic brow lift.

Most men and women can go back to work after a brow lift between a week and 10 days after surgery, although exercising and other vigorous physical activities should wait for several more weeks. Visible evidence of surgery like bruising and swelling typically fades within a few weeks, and can be covered with makeup if needed.

The final results of either traditional or endoscopic brow lift surgery should reveal a smoother, unlined forehead with brows that no longer overshadow the eyes. Horizontal lines and wrinkles should be greatly diminished, and your upper face should look visibly rejuvenated without appearing surgical, and with results that can last up to a decade.
