Labiaplasty

As the most visible portion of a woman’s sexual anatomy, labia (vaginal lips) that feel overly prominent or disproportionate to the rest of your external vaginal area can lead to feelings of self-consciousness that can affect even your most intimate relationships. Labiaplasty can restore a more aesthetic appearance to the labia to help you feel confident and sexy in or out of clothing.

Dr. Alexander Nein is a board certified plastic surgeon who is highly experienced in performing labiaplasty for women in Nashville and throughout Tennessee. His diverse background and extensive medical training combine to help him create a beautiful, natural final result. In addition to genital rejuvenation, Dr. Nein offers a full range of cosmetic surgery procedures for both men and women.

Considering Labiaplasty?

Women most commonly consider labiaplasty out of cosmetic concerns, but there are many physical frustrations that can arise from elongated inner labia as well, including discomfort during sexual intercourse or exercise, persistent irritation from rubbing on clothing or recurrent infections. On an emotional level, worries about labia appearing “normal” can lead to inhibitions in sexual relationships. Labiaplasty creates more discreet contours along with improving symmetry to better match your personal aesthetic ideal.

The best candidates for labiaplasty are women who are in good general physical and mental health who are old enough to have fully matured physically, and who feel embarrassed about the size, shape or appearance of your labia. Women may have naturally larger labia, or their appearance may change due to pregnancy, childbirth or hormone fluctuations. Sensations of discomfort during sexual activity or feeling like your anatomy interferes with normal daily activities are both good indicators that you could benefit from a labiaplasty.

Although labiaplasty is frequently performed as a solo surgery, many women talk to Dr. Nein about undergoing labiaplasty as part of their mommy makeover so they can feel truly rejuvenated from head to toe. You can see examples of the results that are possible with labiaplasty in our office during your consultation.

Planning Your Surgery

Prior to your labiaplasty, Dr. Nein will schedule an in-depth consultation during which you can discuss your hopes for the procedure. Dr. Nein will explain more about what to expect, and ask about the ideal outcome you’d like to see.

Dr. Nein will perform a physical evaluation during this time as well in order to ensure that labiaplasty will help you meet your cosmetic goals, including asking questions about your overall health and any vitamins, supplements or prescription medications you may be taking. Finally, he’ll go into additional detail about the specific steps he takes during labiaplasty, and talk about what you can expect during your surgery and recovery.

Although your consultation is a great time to have all your concerns about labiaplasty addressed, our team is always happy to answer your questions at any point before or after your surgery and throughout your recovery.

Your Recovery & Results

You can expect localized soreness and swelling immediately after your labiaplasty, both of which can be alleviated with ice packs for the first day, along with pain medication if needed. Dr. Nein may recommend that you stay off your feet for a few days after your surgery as well.

Most swelling should be resolved within the first week, and the majority of women return to work within a week or less after surgery, although there may still be some residual tenderness. Even if you feel comfortable being up and active, more vigorous exercise should wait a few more weeks, and sexual intercourse shouldn’t be resumed for at least 6 weeks after labiaplasty. Your incisions should heal up completely by 2 weeks after your labiaplasty. They may look red or pink for a few months, but are typically difficult to see and should become quite faded or nearly invisible as time passes.

After your labiaplasty, your labia should look trimmer and more discreet, in line with the rest of your anatomy. The wedge method of labiaplasty maintains the organic edge of your labia for a natural look that preserves sensation as much as possible. Most importantly, you should feel more comfortable wearing slim-fitting fashions, and feel more confident overall.
