Doctor of Medicine – University of Alabama Birmingham (1987)

Attended UAB in Birmingham, AL; 07/83 – 06/87. Completed the regular core courses and electives. Also conducted a research study into the acute changes in the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) parameters of cardiac tissue immediately after excision.

Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering – Purdue University (1981)

Attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN; 08/79 – 05/81. Master’s thesis topic was the study of flashback in premixing/prevaporizing gas turbine combustors. The thesis consisted of both experimental and analytical work. The program scholastic average was 5.14/6.0.

Awarded Outstanding Fellow Research Assistantship.

NATO Study Fellowship – von Karman Institute de Dynamic des Fluides (1981)

Attended the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics in Brussels, Belgium; 09/81 – 11/81. Research grant focussed on the study of lasers and laser doppler velocimetry.
